❤The movement of the plant in reaction to an external stimulus whose direction is not dictated by the stimulus's direction.
❤Type of nastic movement:
🌴Photonasty: Disruptions in the intensity of light cause this type of movement.
In reaction to the intensity of light, the flower petals of the type of plants that have this type of movement will open during the day and close at night.
Example: Dandelion flower
This type of plant can also be classified as photonastic movement Leguminous plants exhibit the nyctinasty movement.
🌴Chemonasty: The plant reaction towards chemicals or nutrients by which the roots grow towards the most nutrient-dense areas of the soil.
🌴Hydronasty: The plant reaction towards the water by which the roots grow towards the source of water
🌴Thermonasty: Temperature variations cause this type of motion by the plant.
For example, the opening or closing of flowers of the plant in regards to the changing of temperature.
Example: Tulip
🌴Geonasty/Gravinasty: Response of plants towards gravity.
For instance, when the plant's strength is insufficient to maintain the plant's upward movement, the leaf bends.
🌴Thigmonasty/Seismonasty: The plant reaction towards the touch
Example of thigmonasty: Dionaea muscipula (Venus flytrap)
the plant responds when insects are coming in contact by bending towards the insect
Example of seismonasty: Mimosa pudica, that is when the leaf is touched, the leaflets fold together.
🌺Difference of nastic movement and tropism🌺
Both nastic movement and tropism involve the movement of plants. However, they can still be differentiated by:
🌱The movement of plants in the nastic movement is faster than the movement of plants in the tropism.
🌱Nastic movements found in certain plants only while tropism can be found in all plants.
🌱Tropism is usually permanent and irreversible while nastic movement is temporary and reversible.
🌱In tropism, the direction depends on the direction of the stimulus while in nastic movement, the direction does not depend on the direction of the stimulus.
