 Why does the plant move?

1. Plant responses to environmental stimuli 2. Plant must respond to a wide range of environmental conditions via developmental and physiological systems 3. Plant growth and physiology are influenced by various environmental factors.




How do plants move?


1. Tropism

❤Definition: Growth in response to a stimulus for example light, gravity, and touch.

❤Auxin (also known as IAA) is a plant hormone that plays a significant role in a lot of tropisms.

❤Auxin is a plant hormone generated in the stem tip which stimulates cell elongation and root development by facilitating cell division.


2. Nastic movement

❤Definition: The movement of the plant in reaction to an external stimulus whose direction is not dictated by the stimulus's direction.

1.2 NASTIC MOVEMENT

  ❤ The movement of the plant in reaction to an external stimulus whose direction is not dictated by the stimulus's direction. ❤ Type of nastic movement: 🌴 Photonasty: Disruptions in the intensity of light cause this type of movement. In reaction to the intensity of light, the flower petals of the type of plants that have this type of movement will open during the day and close at night.
